One of the best thing about walking along beaches are the surprises you find. Sometimes it is beach glass, a battered float, or the coolest piece of driftwood ever, but on a really lucky day you’ll have the pleasure to come across a starfish. On this visit to the beach at Bridges Road on Pender Island, BC, we came across a blood star resting on the rocky beach.
We usually come across purple starfish clinging to rocks as the tide goes out, so seeing a different type of starfish was quite a treat. The blood star, bright red-orange in color, with delicate, narrow legs, made for some colorful images on a grey and windy day.
